The Carolina Theatre of Greensboro

International Civil Rights Center & Museum

The International Civil Rights Center & Museum is a national center for civil rights and human dignity. It commemorates the American Civil Rights Movement, which culminated in the passage of the landmark Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Voting Rights Act of 1965. Located at the site of the 1960 sit-ins at the F. W. Woolworth’s lunch counter in downtown Greensboro, the museum is a world-class, state-of-the-art facility that allows visitors to explore the history and culture of the civil rights movement.

The museum features interactive displays, artifacts, and multimedia experiences that tell the story of the movement from its origins in North Carolina to its legacy today. The center also features a gallery that tells the story of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s visit to Rocky Mount in 1966. It also includes a replica of his hotel room where he was assassinated.

The museum promotes understanding of American civil rights through educational programs that increase knowledge, stimulate thought, encourage dialogue, honor courage, and celebrate diversity.
